This book is designed to provide information about the use of anabolic
steroids and some of the other drugs that are used in conjunction with them.
I have tried to keep the book accessible to all readers so I have attempted
to keep the amount of technical jargon to a minimum but on occasions
it has proven necessary to include some medical, chemical or biological
terminology. My own interest in performance-enhancing drugs has developed

over the past fifteen years, less from their use in sport than in their non-
competitive use. This is discussed in more detail later.
